Thanks to all the folks who stepped forward to run for City Council. I’m sure any of these candidates would be good for the community in their own way.
However, two of my choices will be to re-elect Melissa Youseff and to elect Seth Furtney. I have seen both in action and am confident they will bring intelligence and objectivity to the position, and when it comes to making hard decisions, the right measure of toughness.
Melissa is a uniter, she understands and practices the ideal of community. She is smart, works for consensus and listens to opposing views. She is adept at bringing everyone along, or at least trying, even on contentious issues.
Durango, you are fortunate to have Melissa on your council. Re-elect her, for your own sake.
I have likewise had opportunity to experience the passion, smarts, and perseverance that Seth Furtney brings to building community and a sustainable economy. He has a wealth of experience and understands the importance of sound budgets. Most important, Seth realizes that, in the end, the role of government is to enable people, not hinder them. I have seen this first-hand. I urge you to add Seth Furtney to council.
