I live two blocks from the proposed bridge over 32nd Street and I couldn’t believe it, or the cost, when I first heard about it.
I was equally surprised when I heard that Buckley Park, a community treasure, was not owned by the city and could be developed!
Thank you, Durango Herald, for covering these issues and giving us the all the obvious solution: Use the bridge funds to buy the park!
I walk and bike across 32nd Street at the river and never felt unsafe doing so. If drivers are speeding or not yielding to pedestrians and cyclists, have police provide enforcement and install a flashing light.
Even with a bridge, many will decide not to use it.
