Letters: But that’s not what really scares me

There are numerous disturbing things about President Trump: He treats Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un better than our allies and seems frightened of them; he has virtually no concern about our environment and the mess we may leave for our children; he couldn’t care less about the devastating effects of climate change; he repeatedly lies and has absolutely no integrity; he is racist; he treats women with disrespect; he allows our youth to die from gun violence and doesn’t have the courage to stand up to the NRA, etc.

However, what scares me about Trump is that he has total control of his base and has many of them brainwashed. They believe he can do no wrong and blindly follow him like sheep. Had it not been for this, our coronavirus may very well be under control now. Instead, Trump encouraged his base to ignore coronavirus guidelines including the wearing of masks and practicing social distancing.

His base practices no independent thinking and allows Trump to manipulate them to the point of tricking them into attending his rallies without a mask and demonstrating that he has no concern for their well-being.
