Letters: Cancel the bridge and buy Buckley Park

It would be a shame to lose Buckley Park to development, not to mention the historic school administration building above it.

But we don’t have to.

Why not take the $4 million being planned for unpopular bridges and use it to buy the school property? The popular park could continue to be used as it has been and the large administration building could be remodeled for recreational classes.

After all, we lost a lot of recreational classrooms when the Mason Center closed and the Rec. Center doesn’t have the space to make up for it.

Somehow, allowing big, view-killing hotels to degrade our downtown and at the same time letting a much-used park and good-looking school building turn into more private development doesn’t seem like the best that our city leaders can do.

Let’s hope they put the $4 million to a good public use, something that we can all get behind.
