Letters: Check out this fire-mitigation resource

During these stressful times, we have added wildfires to our daily watch. In Southwest Colorado, we have a wonderful resource, www.WildfireAdapted.org.

Charlie Landsman, its La Plata County coordinator, is an amazing, knowledgeable home ignition zone specialist. He works closely with a variety of partners to help individuals and communities protect property from wildfire.

The resources Wildfire Adapted provides will guide and assist you in protecting your own property, as well as those in your neighborhood. Take a few minutes to go online and see what you can do in actively planning and accomplishing wildfire risk reduction today.

Wildfire Adapted Partnership offers expert presentations, site visits, chipper rental rebates, kickstart grants for neighborhood projects, workshops and much more. Not only will you feel better taking a proactive approach to your own property, but you will assist our firefighters and community in strengthening resources for emergency management.

I am extremely grateful to this grassroots nonprofit that has served our five-county region since 2003, and depends on grants, volunteers and community donations. With its expert guidance, I’ve spent over 150 hours creating defensible space around my home so I am more prepared in case of fire.

Thanks to all who support these efforts to keep our area and people safe.
