Regarding a recent letter to the editor by Jackie Caudill (“
As a member of the Parks and Recreation advisory board, I can attest to the community input received and the thoughtful method used to prepare the updated Parks Open Space Trails and Recreation Master Plan recently submitted to council. It reflects our citizens’ clear valuing of the services and facilities provided by Parks and Rec and also the community’s aspirations for growth of these amenities that make Durango such an amazing place.
While I agree most tourists do not come here to take a volleyball class, studies show the economic impact from their use of trails, open spaces, waterways and, yes, our amazing Recreation Center (which I find to be well maintained), which are supported by the 2005 and 2015 dedicated sales taxes – yet another indication of our commitment to preserving and enhancing these assets that contribute so much to our healthy lifestyle.
