Letters: Council should strengthen mask rule

I am writing to express my support for the city mask law.

Much as I appreciate my liberties, I am also aware of the responsibilities to the countless hands which hold us all up, keeping the power on, potable water flowing and other essential and emergency services operating.

In this long emergency, I sacrifice a little to benefit the many, and mask up in appropriate circumstances.

City Council has been laudable in its actions to date, which uphold a rational, scientific, modern perspective and strengthen the mask-wearing requirements and promote long-term compliance.

I further propose that City Council direct the creation of simple signage, optimized for digital distribution and printing, which carries a message in bold typeface proclaiming some polished version of, “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Mask, No Service – It’s The Law,” which can be printed off by businesses and posted at the entrances of those businesses.

Much of what is best about Durango’s culture is attributable to its roots in the modern world view that underpins the engineering, railroading and mining industries, the historical foundations of Durango.

The tenet of individual liberty is also attributed to modern cultural values, as is the institution of representative democracy.

As I see it, City Council represents the people of Durango; their best interests as a whole, in accord with the understanding of each councilor. I trust the council will strive to serve the greater good.
