Racial and ethnic slurs should have no place in The Durango Herald, not even on the editorial page.
I found the reference to Sen. Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas” in a letter to the editor to be unacceptable (“Democrats will steal your health care,” Jan. 21).
The author not only disrespects the office of senator, to which Warren was duly elected, he levels a slur against every American, regardless of heritage.
It is up to The Durango Herald, and every other media outlet, to decide whether they would like to serve as a forum for civil discourse or as a soapbox for slurs, epithets and accusation-laden vitriol.
