Letters: Durango screws up 32nd Street again

Durango city officials have screwed up this 32nd Street property purchase opportunity again (“

This property should have been purchased back in 2009 when the city could have gotten all three properties along the river at a bargain price. And this property next to the 32nd Street bridge should have been purchased in March when it was put back on the market. Big mistakes.

Instead, the city jacked around until there was a third-party contract before indicating interest. Now there is another third-party contract. The new buyer could have been bought out with reasonable incentive, but if City Council only offered $10,000, it would of course be rejected! Councilor Chris Bettin, a real estate broker, should know better. Now, once again, the city has screwed up a purchase that would have been an asset to the community and allowed for an underpass at 32nd Street. Unbelievable.
