Letters: Durango virus responses are inconsistent

I write in the hope that elected officials and appointed people in positions of power who control our lives will read this and consider what I am observing.

I just had the serology test at the Fairgrounds. Cedar Diagnostics is doing them, as well as the PCR test.

You can go in to Gandolph’s and get a bong or some Kratum, but you can’t get a haircut.

You can go into any big box store and shop all day, touch everything, but you can’t go into 2nd Ave Sports or Durango Outdoor Exchange.

The Air Force Academy can have in-person graduation, but our kids can’t do the same on the football field under controlled conditions.

The third-most dangerous place in our country is around 60 miles from us, but those folks are shopping in our stores and enjoying the trails.

The point I am trying to make here is that from the top down to local authority, we have no consistent response. We are told that mass testing is key to returning to life, but we find out about it in the paper. The health department defers to the governor for direction, which translates into unclear, inconsistent directives.

We are doing our part, we want to help. I see many friends and strangers who are losing the battle to survive.

We need courage and a clear direct path going forward. The operation can’t be a success if the patient dies.
