I was downtown and saw people walking around without masks. I backed away and gave them space as they walked by. Then two couples got out of a vehicle with Texas plates, none with masks, and wandered about disregarding anyone close by. Why aren’t our downtown ambassadors handing out masks and reminding folks to wear them? Why aren’t they available in the Welcome Center?
Sidewalks are outdoor space, but it’s not always easy to social distance when there is a group spread across a walkway. It’s economically necessary to have people visiting our town, but the city needs to do more to ensure the safety of residents as well as the tourists. Why doesn’t Durango, like Aspen, require masks and levy fines on those too ignorant or unaware to have some respect for others?
