As a retired Fort Lewis College professor, I still get the college’s emails and I recently listened in on one of the FLC virtual town hall meetings.
I continue to be impressed with President Tom Stritikus and his leadership team. Tom, along with Provost Cheryl Nixon and the very fine faculty at FLC, engineered a transfer of 700 courses to online in less than a week’s time so that the learning could continue during the pandemic. The extensive Undergraduate Research Symposium and the Hawk Tank Business Plan Competition were also held online.
These leaders show us how important communication is for success and what good effective communicators can accomplish.
Tough times require strong leadership, and we are lucky to have Tom and his team. However, a word of caution: If you happen to encounter Tom on a tennis court, do not hit to his backhand. His response will be swift, sure, clear and concise. He is a good communicator in that medium as well.
