Our editorial page editor could be contributing to the public dialogue about critical issues but instead writes nonsense like “
And the letters and editorials that screamed that Interim City Manager Amber Blake was not qualified despite serving 14 years in local government, strategically and ably managing the embezzlement and leading us through a pandemic? That’s more nonsense. Amber was passed over for a man, who has never served as a city manager and has no experience in Colorado or a community like Durango. We’ll be lucky if Amber stays in Durango city government.
And the letters that suggest Councilors Kim Baxter and Barbara Noseworthy are our saviors and the others are corrupt? Still more nonsense.
And the May 8 editorial that suggested Brookie was undermining our new councilors by advancing a working agreement (“City Council could make better use of our time”)? Even more nonsense. The agreement is supported by the chairs of three city advisory boards and is necessary for a functional and transparent government.
And the 32nd Street bridge? Your editorial page editor flamed the fire in opposition, and is moving on. We live here. We need a safe crossing and a thoughtful, locally focused opinion page, especially in abnormal times.
