It became obvious fairly early in the summer that we were being inundated with out-of-state visitors – why, at that point, did they not ramp up observation and overseeing of the backcountry?
Surely, if it was obvious to me, a mere citizen, then the powers that be must have noticed the out-of-state plates and influx of visitors and, ergo, ramped up their patrols?
I am just asking why it is such a shock/story, that the backcountry has been overwhelmed (“San Juan Mountains take beating this summer from off-roading,” Aug. 19).
A little prevention is way better than a cure (pun intended).
