Letters: How about a win-win on ‘Chief’ sign?

I appreciate the thoughtful comments of Toh-Atin Gallery owner Jackson Clark in the

Nevertheless, the design of the “Chief” seems done in the style of caricature, which is often used as a comic imitation. Perhaps this is not intended, but there are people who interpret it as such.

This would not fit the image of respect that the gallery wishes to communicate.

There may be a win-win opportunity. With their relationship with Native American artists, would Toh-Atin Gallery be willing to commission a Native American artist to create a sign that honors their culture and also calls attention to the gallery that supports artists? Perhaps a Go Fund Me campaign would allow the community to participate in funding a new sign that fully communicates honor and respect for Native people.

I would consider it an honor to contribute to such an effort.
