I am running for La Plata County commissioner from District 2. My great grandfather Porter was a mine worker in Silverton in the early 1900s. He earned enough to start a ranch in Lewis, north of Cortez, where I grew up. This upbringing gave me common sense, a strong work ethic and strong roots in Southwest Colorado.
Integrity and my proven leadership experience as a business owner and professional meeting facilitator are what I bring to this race. For 26 years, I have worked with over 100 groups, including many regional government bodies, mediating tough issues to find shared community solutions. So, working together isn’t just some campaign promise – it’s who I am.
I will work to grow good jobs and for more affordable housing. I stand for a continuous transition to cleaner energy and will support our community’s ongoing goal for wildfire, drought and flood preparedness. The Ccunty’s budget will be the priority because county services touch everyone – from the roads you drive, to land you use, to senior meals, to needed veterans’ services, to the emergency preparedness and response we all depend on.
Our county is strong and resilient. We will recover in spite of the likely rough rapids ahead as we stabilize. Even-handed, steady leadership of a commissioner who can collaborate and roll up her sleeves to get things done is what we need. The election is Nov. 3.
