Letters: Ignore Herald and say Yes to paid leave

The

The policy laid out in Proposition 118 is modest, yet the Herald argues 12 weeks is too expensive. Would eight weeks be enough? Maybe, but 12 weeks is Proposition 118’s maximum, and for barely the price of a fancy cup of coffee a week you get the peace of mind that if you or a loved one needs time off to take care of a medical emergency or to bond with a newborn, you won’t be punished by losing your paycheck or your livelihood.

Paid leave policies have been shown to benefit mothers, babies and families. Studies have also shown that paid leave polices had a negligible impact on businesses’ bottom lines and ended up actually saving money as employers didn’t have to pay for training to replace employees who quit when they don’t have access to paid leave. We will all need time off at some point in life to care for ourselves or a loved one.

I urge Colorado voters to ignore the Herald and say Yes to paid leave.
