Seeing again the police brutality happening around the county, I thought I’d pass on a couple positive observations of our own local force.
First was when an irate non-customer declared he had a legal right to eat his carry-out dinner at a different restaurant’s private outdoor dining area. He was told this is private property, and to please order something or leave. After becoming irate and threatening the owner, she justifiably called the police.
No one knew I could still see what was unfolding from an upper-story window. The police arrived and endeavored to quell the situation, declaring the restaurant’s owner to be correct. He continued being irate, even lunged at one waiter, but was forcibly stopped by one of the officers. He eventually left due to the calm manner in which these officers did their job.
Next, I observed a very intoxicated person stumbling around on the sidewalk very late at night. He eventually fell down and passed out. As it was winter, I became concerned he actually could freeze to death, so I called the police. Not knowing I was still watching, they gently woke him up, helped him to stand and gently took him to rehab, which potentially saved his life.
In both instances, our police could have been rough and rude, and possibly no one would have ever known. The fact that they were so courteous in both of these situations sure tells me a lot about who these officers are.
