Marsha Porter-Norton was not anointed by the Democratic Party and the La Plata County commissioners. Had independent Jack Turner let his interest be known to the Democratic Party, the bylaws would have precluded party support to either of the candidates until after the voters had their say.
He chose to run as unaffiliated and was subject to the rules.
