A co-op is designed to be for the people, by the people. The entire reason rural electric co-ops were originally created was to give communities like ours the power to access reliable electricity.
So what kind of person do you want in charge of a co-op?
Someone who cares deeply about the community it serves! I can’t think of any better example of a deeply committed member of our community than Rachel Landis.
As I write this, Rachel has taken on the extra responsibility of coordinating a COVID Emergency Food System Response Sub-Committee for La Plata, San Juan, Archuleta and Montezuma Counties – ensuring that our community has access to food and that our food growers are taken care of during this crisis.
For years she has mentored young women in high school as co-founder and co-manager of SOLES, an outdoor leadership and mentoring program. She has also worked with community groups to ensure concerned citizens were able to have a productive conversation with D&SNG railroad about how to move forward after the 416 Fire.
Rachel cares about our corner of the world and the people in it. As an LPEA director, Rachel has already shown she has our best interest at heart, and she certainly will into the future.
