Letters: Let’s keep Rachel Landis on LPEA board

While our communities are going have to focus on coronavirus response for the weeks and months, many things are continuing along in the background. One of those is the upcoming LPEA board of directors election.

We’re fortunate to have this election take place over mail, but the constraints of social distancing have made it as challenging as ever for the public to really hear from the candidates on their positions and experience.

Rachel Landis has a proven track record fighting for the best interest of Durangoans. Her strategic thinking has helped the board navigate some very complex and challenging situations over the past three years.

Her challenger will say he is for lower rates (of course he is, everyone is) and tout his experience with nuclear energy (impressive, but not necessarily relevant since nuclear is not coming back to LPEA’s grid). But behind this rhetoric it’s hard to tell how he would truly take a stand and fight for the best interest of our community and our climate.

Rachel has and always will have our best interest deep in her heart. As an LPEA director, she has pushed for major progress for local control, renewables, and resilient planning. Rachel was a breath of fresh air when she was elected to the board, and she continues to be the wind of positive progress for LPEA. Vote Rachel on your LPEA mail-in ballot!
