Letters: Mask-wearing shows unwarranted panic

People in Durango have lost their sense of perspective on this virus.

The risk of death for anyone under the age of 60 and in good health is exceedingly low.

Despite this, I see young people wearing masks as they walk their dogs in neighborhoods, ride their bikes and hike on trails virtually alone.

While out walking my dog in the early evening last week, I came across a young man on the other side of the street. Once he noticed my wife and I, he quickly pulled up his bandana mask as we passed him over 100 feet away.

This is completely ridiculous and serves no purpose except to perhaps show everyone that they are “doing the right thing.” Mask wearing outdoors is the new sign of political correctness. It also serves to perpetuate the unwarranted and destructive panic that has run amok throughout our community and the country.
