I reside in New Mexico and own property in Colorado. I take great offense to Mike Smedley’s insults and bullying comments which he targeted toward New Mexicans as “Clueless, clods, yellow-bellied and inconsiderate interlopers” (“
New Mexicans support Colorado’s economy by purchasing second homes, supporting ski areas, restaurants, retail businesses, grocery stores and The Durango Herald.
Mike could have advised his reader that although yes, he/she could file a complaint, they could also be supportive, neighborly and compassionate because they have no idea why the homeowners feel compelled to finish the remodel of their home. There may be extenuating circumstances. Who is Mike or anyone to judge?
As a journalist, Mike missed the opportunity to serve people in a positive way. He has, instead, created drama (not humor) through cynicism and negativity at a time when The Durango Herald’s readers are troubled, stressed and looking for guidance and hope.
Shame on you, Mike Smedley. Sign me a proud New Mexican who also loves Colorado.
