I listened to the League of Women Voters session with the four county commission candidates. All hold very similar views on a variety of topics. But our county needs to ensure that the voices of independents are heard, which includes a former Republican moderate in Charly Minkler. Both Charly and Jack Turner bring a refreshing view of what’s possible. I especially appreciated that three of the candidates – Matt Salka, Charly and Jack – did not speak negatively about the others. Only Marsha Porter-Norton went negative, on Turner. The divisiveness in our country will not be ended until we can find ways to respect the views of others and when government is not controlled by one political party. I am supporting our two independents, Minkler and Turner.
