Big thanks and kudos to the director and staff at Ignacio Community Library for a great response to the health crisis.
The morning of March 16 it announced the library would close at 5 p.m. By the next day, ICL posted a special newsletter with updates on its website and Facebook page.
The newsletter lists resources accessible by computer or smart phone, including streaming movies, e-books, databases, Learning Link and science experiments for kids, tax and census forms, and links to art museums around the world – the British Museum, the Uffizi in Florence, the Getty, and others in Amsterdam, Berlin, Seoul, Mexico City and Sao Paolo, where you can see and read about items in their collections.
Art of the world in Ignacio!
For safety, ICL has asked patrons not to return items until they have a sanitizing system in place, and due dates have been moved to April 27.
Patrons can arrange checkouts by phoning ahead; staff will gather the requested materials and have them available for pickup.
The one problem with this thoughtful and generous accommodation is that many in the district’s rural area do not have good internet connectivity. I believe that considerable grant money has been made available to providers, but not much progress has been seen.
