I have worked for many years with Marsha Porter-Norton and Sen. Michael Bennet on efforts to help provide a balanced approach to the management and protection of the public lands that make our economy thrive. Here in La Plata Count,y Marsha helped bring together a diverse group of stakeholders to forge the compromise that became the Hermosa Creek Watershed Protection Act, a bill that went on to pass into law with bipartisan support from both Sen. Bennet and Rep. Scott Tipton. Without Marsha’s impressive ability to lead people to collaborate and compromise, this bill would not have become law. Her efforts to bring people together are not limited to La Plata County. Her skills are in high demand in other parts of the Western Slope. She has played a similar role working with local communities as a facilitator on efforts to protect public lands in Gunnison County and the Dolores River basin. Marsha has repeatedly demonstrated that she has the ability to listen to different perspectives and make sure all voices are heard when crafting policy and making decisions – the most critical skill needed for an elected official to be successful. Marsha will be an outstanding commissioner for La Plata County. She will help bring people together at a time when we need that more than ever.
