Since when did the question “Will you accept the results of the general election?” become valid for a presidential candidate or a sitting president?
Before the 2016 election, to imply that a candidate had a choice in the matter would have been ludicrous. Unless there has been proven electoral obstruction or fraud or tampering that determined the outcome, the candidate does not have a choice but to accept the results. That’s how our system works.
President Trump’s interviewers must stop asking this question as if it were an actual option. Offering this false choice as if it were real just feeds his already delusional ego by implying he has a power that he or any president does not actually have. It’s not healthy because it is not real. The situation our nation finds itself in is too dangerous to toss such fantasies into an unstable mind as doable.
