Rarely do ballot measures threaten to disproportionately punish geographic constituencies. Until now. In 2019, the Colorado Legislature and governor approved legislation implementing a “national popular vote” compact. If ratified and implemented, it would obligate Colorado to award its nine Electoral College votes to the candidate who wins the most votes nationwide. Proposition 113 is particularly bad for rural Colorado. Urban interests, issues and concerns would be paramount. Rural Colorado and rural America deserve a voice. The Electoral College is one of the few institutions that ensures the voice of rural and small-town communities is heard. Southwest Coloradans should vote No on Proposition 113.
