I could not believe my eyes today as I visited a major local retailer. The store has implemented a mandatory mask policy and has a regulated checkpoint to ensure all customers who enter are wearing masks.
Once inside the store and clear of the checkpoint, I witnessed a couple in their early 60s remove masks and stow them in their pockets.
Further, I saw three other mask-less customers past the checkpoint, who must have done the same.
I‘ve read in this space from the anti-science virus conspiracists about how their rights are being violated during the pandemic. However, willfully tricking a retailer about your compliance with a mask rule and then breaking the rule while you shop tramples the rights of workers and fellow customers alike.
Did you think about their rights before pulling your immature stunt?
You see, removing the mask after the checkpoint is not an act of defiance. It is a selfish and cowardly act.
Your mask prevents others from getting the virus, as it is possible you are sick and unaware of it. If everyone wears one when asked, more businesses can reopen and most importantly, more people remain healthy.
If you don’t like the policy, you have the freedom to not shop at that store, order curbside pick up or pay for delivery. As grown adults, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Instead of fixating on your warped understanding of freedom, please work on the interpersonal skill known as empathy.
