What if the social justice people and the Black Lives Matter supporters had prevailed and forced the city to defund the police department?
Instead of armed and trained officers showing up when an alarm goes off, the alarm company calls the store manager and he arrives and opens the door and is surprised by an armed intruder (“Durango police identify man killed in early morning gunfight,” July 1).
What if the manager is shot? What are those holding BLM signs at Buckley Park going to say to his widow and children because you demanded that the city defund the police department?
I suspect that the majority of the protesters don’t have a clue of what Black Lives Matter really stands for and who finances the organization.
To those of you calling for Durango to defund the police department, be very careful of what you wish for.
