It seems to me that the 9-R school district has made the issue of the 32nd Street bridge simple.
Do we use the money for a controversial bridge, which many oppose, or do we buy Buckley Park from the 9-R school district, thus preserving a bit of urban open space for generations to come, and keep it from high-rise commercial development?
And I guess the second alternative keeps the money in the “family,” as it were, if we consider the city of Durango and the 9-R District are related.
I imagine the New York City fathers had a similar decision when they decided to set aside Central Park rather than sell the land for development.
