The city of Durango is poised to make a mistake of epic proportions.
The 32nd Street bridge may be good for the Animus River Trail, but it’s bad for Durango.
It will not only ruin the beautiful view of our mountains, it will forever relegate north Durango to a low-rent district look and feel through its shear ugliness.
A $4.1 million piece of blight.
And it will be doubly bad if Buckley Park is bulldozed and turned into architecturally lifeless condo boxes because the city couldn’t afford to buy it, having spent the money on the bridge. Two mistakes rolled into one.
We love our summer music in the park and having a wonderful green space to meet, relax and have fun.
Please make sure your voice is heard and this bridge is shelved, hopefully permanently, but at least until we can be assured that the future of Buckley Park is secure.
