One of Durango’s many awesome attributes is the Animas running right through town. Efforts to expand and enhance the trail along the river have provided a terrific and well-used amenity.
The proposed $4.1 million bridge at 32nd Street is misguided. Its negative aesthetics far outweigh any ideal of connectivity. I also took exception to the notion put forth in the article that it’s a done deal. City Council can, and should, override previous decisions when it becomes apparent it was, perhaps, a bad initial decision.
It’s one thing to waste 4.1 million needed dollars, but this will have the added sting of every resident driving by forever saying, “Can you believe how ugly that is?”
