I don’t understand the outcry by some of my fellow citizens and patriots about measures that have been recommended or even ordered to try to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among the population. They talk as though these temporary measures are a step toward totalitarianism.
During World War II, people along the West Coast were told to turn off their lights at night for security reasons and Londoners were told to do the same and go to shelters. Americans had to do without certain foods and products containing materials that were needed for the war effort for several years. Do you think these people protested that their individual rights were being taken away?
They sacrificed for the greater good. What we have been asked, or told, to do is also for the greater good. Refusing to wear a mask and/or practice social distancing while in a public place in proximity to others is a selfish act and only increases the possibility of spreading the virus to others.
It is for the safety and benefit of all of us.
