I have seen many signs around town thanking all of the first responders and hospital workers for their efforts during this COVID-19 time. This is fine and I am glad they were all here ready. However, from the information I have seen, there was no rush of infected people that came close to overwhelming our facilities and making anyone work like they had to in our big cities. We have not had a problem.
To the contrary, our local nonprofit hospital, Mercy, drastically reduced business and is now in need of patients.
Who we really need to thank is all the cashiers and workers at our stores; the mailmen and delivery people; and others who do not make a ton of money, exposed themselves to the public and worked through this thing so that we all could buy the food and supplies we needed. To all of you, I say: Thank you!
