Of course, the new council has concerns about the past budget process.
These previous councilors attempted to pass a $50 million local tax to fund airport improvements. As it turns out, these improvements are being made at no new expense to the taxpayer, and $100 million for Ewing Mesa development is so over the top as to be laughable.
While Parks and Rec coffers run over, the city continues to operate a sub-standard police station and is considering raising already obscene water rates.
The citizens of Durango are lucky to have councilors who are willing to make fiscal responsibility a priority. They deserve our support.
