La Plata County has two independent candidates on the ballot for commissioner, Jack Turner and Charly Minkler. We now have a three-person Democratic Party commission, representing a voter population that is about 30% of each party and 40% independent. Not really representative, is it?
According to a Pew survey, about two-thirds of independents say they are independent because both parties care more about special interests than average Americans. I’m an independent. I’m all-in for Jack Turner, but am still researching Charly Minkler and Matt Salka, because I’m an engaged independent, and I’m still learning about these two people.
