Thank you to Herbert Bowman for your Feb. 9 letter to the editor, “
You helped to solve a mystery for me. I had previously researched Tipton’s campaign contributions and found the large donations from banking, finance and real estate sectors, much of which is out-of-state money. I wondered why?
You pointed out Tipton sits on the House Banking Committee. It makes sense they would want to influence his success in a political campaign and thereby win his votes on legislation that favors the industry – almost a half million favors. Conflict of interests?
Tipton’s campaign contributions from the fossil fuel industry are not surprising. He states, “The environment is one of my top priorities.” His voting record reflects otherwise.
It is surprising to learn that small contributions to Tipton’s campaign amounted to under 5%. I am still mystified as to why that figure is such a minor percentage?
Former Sen. Tom Daschle once said, “We need campaign reform to loosen the grip of special interests on politics.” Tipton demonstrates this need for reform well.
