Letters: Unemployment – why not an app for that?

As of this writing, Congress is still negotiating about unemployment benefits. In an interview, Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford explained that the unemployment systems weren’t designed to figure each person’s income relative to benefits received.

Lankford stated that the goal is to provide an “average” of 70% of the wages earned while working. Some may receive more than they had earned, some may receive less; per Lankford, the acceptable solution was to achieve the “average” of 70%.

I am suggesting that until the employment figures return to pre-COVID-19 numbers, members of Congress receive 70% of their salary.

As to calculating unemployment benefits for each individual, for those who filed income taxes, couldn’t someone create an app for that?
