Letters: White opinions about sign do not count

I subscribe to The

Your previous article about the Toh-Atin Gallery “chief” sign limited its inquiry about whether the statue should be taken down to artists who depend on the gallery for income and the gallery’s owners.

Your current inquiry, the online poll, is too broad because it includes the majority white community here.

White opinions on whether the statue should come down do not count. They do not matter. White people are not part of the affected group.

You don’t ask the oppressor what they think about oppression, and come up with anything that turns the light of truth on the matter, as Ida B. Wells said.

It’s Juneteenth as I write. Be brave. Do journalism.
