Letters: Why are we building an unholy eyesore?

I could not agree more with the Herald’s editorial reacting to the proposed 32nd Street overpass (“

What an unholy eyesore.

As the editorial pointed out, even if you ignore all the other factors in this proposed project (cost, necessity), that is one ugly monstrosity.

I love riding my bike or walking on the bike path – to immerse myself in the natural world. Having that thing as part of the view for everyone crossing the river would be literally a sin against nature that no benefits can balance.

Just put a real traffic light in on the east side the bridge, so folks can get to the upstream side of the existing bridge and ride across to the park and the start of the trail extension.

If users cannot be expected to be aware of the train coming on the tracks (my God, are we really that inept?), put in a gate on the sidewalk at the tracks like the one that already exists on 32nd Street.
