Letters: Why can’t we just widen the sidewalks?

Why can’t the foot/bike bridge simply be a widening of the sidewalks on the existing bridge?

Surely, walkers and cyclists would not be too burdened by stopping for a light to cross the tracks and then 32nd Street.
