Letters: You cannot see me smile as we pass

Thanks to all the locals and guests in town who wear masks!

We appreciate your maturity and care for both the health of others and the viability of businesses by wearing masks. Particular thanks for those who demonstrate wearing masks correctly, over their mouths and noses.

I know you cannot see me smile as we walk past each other, but we share a mutual regard in that moment; we are in this together, infinitely connected and responsive. Gratitude seems like the appropriate response when seeing each other.

As more and more of us demonstrate responsibility for the pandemic by wearing masks in public, we can make a huge impact in reducing the accelerating infections and soon get this under control. In this way, we also do our part in beginning to return the USA to a position of competence and dignity.

May we all celebrate our shared connection as citizens of the United States and mask up.
