In honor of their new Fly Fishing Special Collection, the Pine River Library will host a series of fly fishing events from Oct. 4-6.
First will be the launch of the book collection thanks to the generosity of Dennis Pat Oglesby, who died in 2016. One of Pat's last requests was to donate his extensive collection of over 700 books to a location where they could be enjoyed by fellow fly fishers on Colorado's Western Slope. Pat and his wife were honored by Trout Unlimited as the group's outstanding volunteers. Join Carol Oglesby, Pat's wife of 42 years, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4 for a reception with light snacks.
The following evening, at 6 p.m. on Oct. 5, Library Director Shelley Walchak will talk about her book 52 Rivers, which tells the story of how she lived her dream by giving up her job at the Colorado State Library to fly fish a river a week for a year. Walchak's slide show and talk reveals the funny stories, inspirational encounters and beautiful scenery captured throughout the author's three-year project.
The final event of the series will be a Beginning Fly Fishing course on from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct.6, taught by local guide Glenn Tinnin and Carol Oglesby, a Fly Fishers International certified casting instructor. Participants can learn how to fly fish or brush up on your basic skills in the workshop, which will also include casting practice in the library park.
The library will supply rods for those who do not have their own equipment. There is a registration fee of $35 for this course and pre-registration is required. Call or stop by the library information desk to sign up.
