As they work on a new strategic plan, the Pine River Library Board of Trustees and the library director have started surveying area residents.
"Three years ago, our community said they were ready for a larger library," says Board President Judy London. "We are eager to find out about their ideas for the next few years."
The library began distributing surveys to area residents earlier this month. According to Library Director Amy Dodson, the rewards for completing the survey are mutual.
"Adult residents who fill out a survey can enter a drawing to win an iPad Air," says Dodson. "Everyone will benefit from the community survey. The more we know about community needs, the more we can build the best services and programs for Bayfield families."
The library's long range plan was last updated in 2011, following a similar community survey.
"It was the 2011 survey which led to the library's major expansion project," says London. "The community asked for more space and increased programs, and the board listened."
The Pine River Library was recently voted as the "Best Small Library in America" by Library Journal and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Recently, Lt. Governor Joe Garcia visited the library, and presented a proclamation from Gov. John Hickenlooper declaring May 20 as "Pine River Library Day."
"These accolades really came because of what this community told us three years ago," says London.
According to Dodson, there will be two different surveys and two different prizes. "Adults completing our survey will have a chance to win the iPad Air. But kids between the ages of 8-14 are encouraged to answer our youth survey, for a chance to win an iPod Touch."
The survey is available at the library and online. Residents have until July 31 to submit their responses.
