Library, schools honoring U.S. Veterans

Two upcoming dinners and programs will honor local veterans and their families for Veterans Day on Sunday.

On Friday, Nov. 9, the Ignacio School District invites all veterans and their families to a dinner at 6 p.m. at Ignacio High School. "We want to recognize all of you and thank you for your service," school district staff wrote in the invitation.

Another event will honor veterans at Monday night at the Pine River Library.

Through the Veterans' Stories Project, the library has been collecting oral histories of local veterans, and the first video interviews from the project will be shown at the library on Monday, Nov. 12. The videos include stories from veterans who served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq. There will be a free soup dinner for all from 6 to 7 p.m., during which the short interviews will be shown. Afterwards, attendees are invited to stay for a showing of the classic 1945 film, Pride of the Marines.
