Library starting personal history project

The Pine River Library is starting a program to help older area residents preserve their personal histories. It's called Heritage Hub.

"We are looking for local seniors to join our program and learn how to research, write, record, and share their life stories," said Karen Lemke, the library's public relations manager and Heritage Hub organizer,

The introductory class will teach participants how to use the library to research, write, record and/ or share personal histories. Participants will be able to use library computers to type and save memories, to digitize slides or photos, use Ancestry.com for genealogical research, record oral histories, and participate in a Heritage Hub showcase on Sept. 22 during the lead-up to Bayfield Heritage Days.

Various other classes will be offered as part of this program. Participants will receive a USB flash drive to store their images, documents, and recordings.

All classes have limited space, so advance signup is required. An introductory course about the Heritage Hub program is being offered multiple times in March and April. For more information about the Heritage Hub or to sign up for classes, contact Karen Lemke at karen@prlibrary.org or by phone at 884-2222, ext.522.
