Library tax increase still losing by 10 votes

Recount set to take place after Thanksgiving
Melanie Brubaker Mazur/Pine River Times file

Library proponents hope voters in the Pine River Valley will approve a mill-levy increase for library operations.

There are still 10 votes separating the question to raise the mill levy on property taxes in the Pine River Library District.

On Wednesday, unofficial results had 2,378 YES votes and 2,388 NO votes.

All provisional and military ballots were counted as of Wednesday night, said La Plata County Clerk Tiffany Parker.

Because there is less than one half of 1 percent difference in the vote totals, there will be an automatic recount on both the library ballot question and the La Plata County commission race between Brad Blake and Clyde Church. As of Wednesday, Church had gained ground since election night and had 13,842 votes, compared to 13,814 for Blake.

The recount probably will take place on Nov. 26 or Nov. 27, Parker said.

"Every vote matters," she said. "It's incredible."
