A lightning strike started a small wildfire between Bayfield and Yellow Jacket Pass in the Beaver Meadows area of the San Juan National Forest, according to a news release Thursday from the U.S. Forest Service.
Columbine Ranger District fire crews are monitoring a fire less than an acre in size smoldering in aspen and conifers near Jungle Canyon.
Public access to the nearby ATV trail No. 717 and Beaver Meadows Road is not affected by the blaze.
Fire crews, assisted by a Type III fire engine, are on site assessing the wildfire.
Passersby could see light smoke north of U.S. Highway 160.
The weather forecast is calling for a 30 percent chance of rain this afternoon with increased humidity.
