Having read the story headlined “Colorado’s Water Plan Faces Choppy Water” (Herald, July 21), I can’t help but wonder why La Plata County continues to grant exceptions that allow landowners to re-subdivide existing plats. This is of particular concern in areas where water has already been judged to be scarce, and increases in density would put additional stress on this precious resource.
Shouldn’t the county adhere to its existing rulings that balance water availability with population density rather than granting exceptions that undermine this crucial strategy?
